High school senior Elena García is vacationing in Cusco with her mother, who is delighted to return to Peru. In her youth she spent two years in Cusco, so going back with her daughter years later to this amazing region is a dream come true. Everything that Elena experiences, however, bugs her - the food, the people, the clothing, the altitude… She would rather have stayed home in Colorado. She is just starting to get interested in some things when her mother has an accident and suddenly Elena has to deal with the aftermath. The experiences that follow have a transformative effect on Elena.
